The Toyota Mirai is a one-of-a-kind electric car powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. This fuel cell combines stored hydrogen with atmospheric oxygen to produce electricity. The sole emission from this process is pure water, emitted via the vehicle’s tailpipe.
For 2024, the Mirai has gained some software updates and new paint colors. Notably, it now gets Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 from version 2.5+ for the 2023 model.
Two trims are available for 2024 Mirai buyers to choose from:

The 2024 Toyota Mirai offers up to 94 cubic feet of interior volume and seating for five occupants. Specifying the optional moonroof reduces headroom, but it’s barely noticeable. Both trims include Toyota’s SofTex®-trimmed upholstery and power-adjustable front seats with heating. The Limited trim also adds heating to the outboard rear seats and ventilation for the front plus outboard rear seats.
The XLE gets dual-zone automatic climate control, while the Limited adds a third zone for rear passengers. Furthermore, a function called ALL AUTO automatically combines and manages climate control and seat heating/ventilation functions for enhanced comfort.
The 2024 Mirai’s dashboard design is futuristic and distinctive from other Toyota models. Buyers also receive a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with multifunction controls. Meanwhile, choosing the Limited trim adds memory functionality to the steering wheel, eight-color ambient lighting, and a powered rear windshield sunshade.
The 2024 Toyota Mirai gets a new paint shade. Furthermore, buyers can now choose 20-inch chrome-finished aluminum wheels for the XLE trim, which comes with 19-inch units as standard.
All trims include a satin black front grille, bi-beam auto-leveling LED headlamps, and LED daytime running lamps. The rear lamp clusters also use LEDs. The Limited trim also gains dual-tone heated power-folding outside rear-view mirrors, with turn signal indicators and puddle lamps.
Six colors are available for the 2024 Mirai range:
The 2024 Toyota Mirai is fundamentally an electric car, with a single electric motor driving the rear wheels via a direct-drive transmission. The motor is rated to develop 182 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. All trims have three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. These adjust drivetrain parameters accordingly, allowing drivers to prioritize range, performance, or both.
The Mirai’s 1.24-kilowatt-hour drive battery is charged via a hydrogen fuel cell. This system allows drivers to pull up to a hydrogen filling station and top up the car’s three hydrogen tanks. The Mirai will take less than five minutes to fill the tanks fully. The maximum range rated for a full tank is 402 miles for the XLE trim and 357 miles for the Limited trim.
The 2024 Toyota Mirai is a truly unique and interesting electric car to own and drive. It has enough versatility and tech features to be your next daily driver. Furthermore, it comes with excellent safety equipment and Toyota’s signature reliability. Why not check it out for yourself?
