For those near the greater Warrenton, Virginia area, there is one summer event that people look forward to all year, the annual Celebration of Patriotism in Culpeper. This historic town is closely related to the birth of the United States and that fact is not forgotten.

2017 Celebration of Patriotism

Every year the city throws one heck of a festival to celebrate the freedom and independence that all Americans get to enjoy. There are a wide variety of activities which take place throughout the downtown area. Of course, the main event is the annual fireworks display that takes place at 9:15 pm. It is one of the best in the area and is not to be missed.

A Full Day of Fun & History

Everything gets started at 8 am with the 2017 Freedom 5K Race which starts at Culpeper Baptist Church and traces its route through downtown. After the race, the Culpeper Renaissance Car & Bike Show runs until 5 pm. The Museum of Culpeper History will be open till five as well with special displays and exhibits. Be sure to also check out the Burgandine House in Yowell Meadow Park, which will be open till dark.

There will also be a Patriotic Demonstration on the Courthouse Lawn from Noon to 1 pm, followed by the Downtown Main Street Parade from 4 pm till 5 pm.

Yowell Meadow Park is the Center of the Fun

Most of the activities will be taking place at the park. These include free to use kayaks & boats from 10 am to 2 pm, hayrides as well as Spacewalk Moonbounces in the evening, the Show-Off & Show-Down event which begins at 2 pm and in the evening from 5 till around 8:30 craft and food vendors as well as live music and entertainment from Kate Hohman.

Stick Around for The Main Attraction

The feature presentation of the day is one of the best fireworks displays in the area. The fireworks show is set to start at around 9:15. You can see this show from all over downtown, but the best seats will be on the lawn of Yowell Meadow Park. Music will accompany the show. It’s the perfect way to cap off a wonderful day of fun and patriotism.

The fun begins at 8 am with the 5K and continues until the end of the fireworks show later that night. Most events take place at Yowell Meadow Park. The 2017 festival is sponsored by German Culver, Virginia Orthopaedic & Spine Center, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, and Merchants Grocery. Presented by the City of Culpeper and the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce. Organized by the Culpeper Festival Committee. Admission is to the park festivities is free and parking is available throughout the downtown area. Sorry, no alcoholic beverages, pets, or personal fireworks are permitted at the festival.
