As autumn descends upon us and the summer heat recedes, it's a great time to get outside for some quality time in the great outdoors around Warrenton. Luckily, we've got a ton of parks and trails in the area that will suit many interests, whether that's taking a nice stroll with a four-legged friend, tossing a football around with your buddies, grilling out with your family, or other outdoor activities.

Get Out There

Getting outdoors is a great way to get an essential dose of Vitamin D, because it's made in the skin when it’s exposed to sunlight. Studies suggest that Vitamin D may have protective effects against everything from osteoporosis to cancer to depression to heart attacks and stroke. So while the weather is cooler and the sun's rays aren't as intense, get out to a local park and enjoy that sunshine. We particularly love Eva Walker Park, which has a pavilion that can be reserved, as well as available charcoal grills, walking trails, horseshoe pits, a playground for kids, and plenty of open space to enjoy. If you want a little more strenuous and competitive activity, Academy Hill Park has pickleball courts that you can reserve. They also have picnic tables and benches to reserve so that you can catch a rest or a meal with friends.

It's Good for You

Outdoor activities improve your mental health as well as your physical well-being.  Time outdoors can improve your mood and reduce stress and depression. Engaging in a physical activity produces similar benefits and oftentimes relaxes and cheers people up. That's a great reason to head to Sam Tarr park, which has walking trails and a playground, in addition to open space and soccer fields that are available for reservation. Remember: outdoor exercise stimulates all five senses in a way that indoor activities cannot. Additionally, being out in nature impacts the brain in a positive way, making you feel better about yourself. And if you're feeling particularly adventurous, go check out the action at the skate park at the Warrenton Sports Complex. You'll come away impressed and maybe a little envious at what those skaters can do!   You might Like: Spice Up Dinner With This Chicken Pumpkin Curry
