Tips To Kick Off Spring Cleaning

It may still be cold, but spring is on its way! Take advantage of the calmer days of winter to get a head start on cleaning. Not sure where to start? Use these tips to tackle the job ahead.

Take One Room At A Time

Instead of letting the entire house overwhelm you, break it up into sections. It's much easier to focus on one room at a time. You'll also be able to see clear progress, which will help you stay motivated. If it helps, create a checklist for each room. Make sure to focus on tasks that are unique to each room. That way you won't forget them. Save time by skipping anything that has been cleaned recently and focus on neglected jobs instead.

Organize Clutter As You Go

The main priority for spring cleaning is getting rid of unnecessary clutter. Although, don't throw everything away without thinking. Try to create three piles as you go through the room: trash, donate, and keep. Once everything is sorted, get it out of the room. Throw away all trash items, put everything away, and box up all donation items. This will give you a clear working space to finish cleaning. If there is a lot of clutter in one area, try to think of solutions to prevent future clutter. Do you need another trash can in the room or storage bins for items? Finding solutions to problem areas will make a huge difference later on.

Minimize Cleaning Products

Having too many cleaning products might not seem like a problem, but it is just another source of clutter! Nothing puts a damper on motivation like opening up a messy cabinet and struggling to find the right supplies. Take time to look through all of your products and see if you need them. Try to avoid specialized cleaners if you can. Instead, purchase a quality all-purpose cleaner you trust. It's also great to invest in a couple of microfiber cloths. That should be enough for most of the surfaces in your home.

Involve Everyone

There's something that everyone can do to help, and making it a family task will help cleaning go faster. It can also be a lot of fun once you get the music going. Find age-appropriate tasks for the little ones, and have everyone clean their own space. Work together on common areas, and you'll finish before you know it.
